It’s not the best sourdough I’ve ever made. I didn’t worry about having an open crumb or a perfect crust. I just wanted some good bread. I wanted to know for certain that my well-traveled sourdough starter was indeed in good health. No, it may not be the best sourdough I’ve made and these photos may not be the best I’ve taken. But this bread, this blog post, and these photos will always have a special place in my heart.

This bread looks fabulous to me Nicole! I can tear into those loaves and not even need the gobs of butter I normally put on my bread. Photos are stunning and I can smell the bread from Central California!

8:08 pm Nov 26th, 2007Looks wonderful to me - both the pictures and bread. The thing is — homemade bread is so satisfying that even when it’s not perfect, it’s delicious!
6:17 am Nov 27th, 2007I’m eagerly awaiting your sourdough 101 post…
8:33 am Nov 27th, 2007Nicole, enjoy the bread… From what I hear, it doesn’t take long for the wild yeast in your own kitchen to replace those in a starter from elsewhere, so you may only have a few weeks to still have that Sicilian taste in your bread. The good part is that wherever home ends up, your bread will reflect that eventually.
Only a few more days to do this daily post thing… Then you can breathe for a day or two.
9:09 am Nov 27th, 2007Nicole this sour dough looks delicious.
Love the cat and dog pic too.
9:20 am Nov 27th, 2007So glad your sourdough made the trip and is obviously none the worse for it!
1:59 pm Nov 27th, 2007MMM..looks good.
2:50 pm Nov 27th, 2007Now I can’t stop craving sourdough. Being from the east coast, I’m not sure if I’ve ever had a good sourdough bread. My friend from San Jose says it doesn’t exist out here. I did try Boudin’s when in San Fran, which was good if I remember correctly. Now I am determined to have a big old slice. Is it best with butter?
5:18 pm Nov 27th, 2007oh my goodness yum. I’m planning on learning how to bake bread from scratch pretty soon. can’t wait to see how to make the starter!
