Hi to all the unfortunate.

I also have this rank taste in the back of my mouth every time I eat. I had a few handfulls of Morrisons own brand pine nuts, although it says these are packaged in the UK the after ringing thier customer services they won’t disclose where it get’s the pine nuts from.
I think it would be an for us all to put down what stores we bought our pine nuts from so that less and less of us have to go through this again.

I recently ate a bag of pine nuts from Trader Joes and I am feeling the exact same thing. It is annoying but after reading this, I am positive it is what I have sa well. No I will not stop eating the little suckers, I love them too. But I will no longer purchase them on sale from Trader Joe's, I will only get them from nicer stores and follow the recommendation to only purchase the Italian variety. Thanks for the information and have a good one.

I am on the 4th day of this reaction to pine nuts from China bought at Costco.
I did have a neck pain for first 3 days. Now from the bitterness in my mouth, the reaction moved in to having sensation that inside of my mouth is burned, dry, very sensitive to hot foods, still, any food taste is revolting.
I emailed a report to FDA consumer@fda.gov , and emailed Costco. I found information that Costco is aware of the problem, I wonder why pine nuts are still on their shelves.
btw, I always keep nuts cold or in a freezer.

Thank you a bunch. I bought a big bag of pine nuts to make pesto for the holidays. Stored in my freezer I have taken the bag out a few times for a little protein snack. For about 2days now it seemed like the nasty allergy drain was in the back of my throat, however mouthwash made it worse and all food irritated it. Not normal! With swine flu etc I have been freaking out. I'm a new mom....a bit neurotic! I have also had a bit of a headache that has been lingering with it as well. Instantly, after googling bitter taste in my throat, it said Pine nuts...i don't eat these often at all so it makes total sense...

I have been eating excessive amounts of pine nuts for days. And have been experiencing the metallic taste sensation. That, however, is nothing compaired to the discomfort in my neck. I have had severe neck ache/stiffness. Has any one else experienced this syptom after eating pine nuts? I am just concerned that it is not related to the pine nuts, in which case I should have it checked out. I haven't done any unusual exercise or strenuous activity that could have caused the neck problem. It seemed to come out of nowhere at about the same time as the metallic taste problem. I will miss you beloved pine nuts!!

correction to my previous post -- Pine Nuts I ate (Melissa's Pine Nuts) -- product of China but not purchased at Trader Joes. They were purchased at Albertson's in Las Vegas, NV. And by the way, the Trader Joes rep said they no longer carry ANY products produced in China. But to add to the confusion -- my sister recently had Pine Nuts produced "in Russia or Korea" and got the same horrific taste condition. As for me, the recommendation to eat very hot & spicey foods really helped. Condition has improved. Believe I'm on Day 6 and the bad taste has noticeably dissipated.

WOW! I don't have as severe metallic/bitter taste as others, but it's definitely there. It took 2 days to show up---not pleasant at all! I can't wait for it to be gone! My husband only had a couple of the pine nuts (not a fan of the couscous I made) and he doesn't have a problem. I ate what I cooked and bleck!! No more pine nuts for me--I like to taste what I eat.

Woohoo! I'm not insane. Everything I eat or drink tastes bitter, metallic, burnt, ashy, etc. ever since eating out with my family at Bootleggers, the other night. Thought it was bad yeast from their bread. Tried gargling for hours with salt water -- as salt kills yeast. No change. Problem 3 days later is even getting worse. Can't stomach ANYTHING, except some very sweet Mango frozen yoghurt (only thing I've enjoyed in the last 4 days -- and I'm typically not a frozen yoghurt fan; never liked mangos, either; so, yes -- sweet stuff does neutralize the taste temporarily. The culprit??? after reading your threads, it must be the handfuls of pine nuts I ate the day before going to out to eat (Bootleggers, you're off the hook!). I'm not a big pine nut fan, but my wife bought a packet from Trader Joe's in Las Vegas, NV -- Melissa's Pine Nuts and yes, PRODUCT OF CHINA! My father is visiting from Indiana -- he ate the pine nuts, too, and is experiencing the same awful sensation, but was too afraid to ask me about it, until I finally asked him. Haven't heard any remedies except time and sweets. Is that it? Personally, I think the Chinese are using us as test cases to validate a new weight-loss chemical that works by making everything taste bad. Anyone notified Dept of Agriculture? Concerned there should be a nation-wide recall of Chinese Pine Nuts.
