No time for a recipe today but wanted to share some photos from our drive up to the volcano last weekend. The fall colors were breathtaking against the backdrop of black lava rock on the south side of the mountain. But after driving around to the north side, we found some beautiful misty forests and for a moment it felt more like Oregon than Sicily.

Wow Nicole, these are beautiful pictures!Thank you so much for sharing

8:04 pm Nov 7th, 2007I’m going to sound so geeky, but that last picture looks like the “Dark Forest” from Harry Potter 1. Ha!
9:40 pm Nov 7th, 2007love the fall colors against the volcanic rock and the mist kind of draws you in…..
9:45 pm Nov 7th, 2007That’s beautiful. I love how the fall colors are boosted by the charred ground.
10:13 pm Nov 7th, 2007Wow…those blackened tree trunks are really something! And then that mist in the air. I love the fall colors, but that last photo is especially evocative to me.

5:31 pm Nov 8th, 2007stunning! i was in italy for 2wks this past summer but didn’t go as far as naples… we ruled out sicily because it would have cut 2 days out of our trip simply to go down and come back on ferry/train.
8:14 am Nov 10th, 2007Jack: I think Northern Italy and Southern Italy really should be visited on separate occasions! There’s just not enough time to see everything in one trip! I bet you had a wonderful time
