A Day in the Life of a Bread-Baking Twitter Addict

So, it’s pretty obvious by now that I’ve had a hard time updating Pinch My Salt since our move back to the United States. Each time I write a post, I think that I’m finally back in the groove. Then a few days pass, then a week, then a month.

But I miss blogging. I know I miss it because lately I’ve been tweeting like crazy. Yes, that’s right. Tweeting.

Alright, for those few people left in the world who haven’t yet been introduced to Twitter, I’ll do my best to explain it.

Twitter is like blogging in short bursts, without actually having to maintain a blog. It’s a a way to share your immediate thoughts with the world in a very laid-back and casual way. It’s a way to get to know your friends better and a way to peek into the lives of people you admire. It’s a way to have a conversation with the world. Continue reading →

Use Food Blog Search to Find the Best Recipes

Since you’re reading my blog, I know for a fact that you read several other food blogs. They’re addicting, right? One food blog is never enough. What is it about food blogs that keeps us coming back for more? The photos? The writing? The recipes? Usually, it’s all of the above!

I think many people trust recipes from food blogs more than other sources because we feel like it’s been prepared right before our eyes. The blogger often shares their thoughts on what was great about the recipe and what could use some improvement. And we often leave a food blog thinking, “Hey, maybe I can do that too!” Continue reading →

Fun in the Kitchen with Film and Eggs

Breaking an Egg

Although I haven’t written much about it, my black and white photography class has taken center stage in my life for the past several weeks. At first it was difficult and frustrating moving from digital back to 35mm. But I’ve slowly started to become a darkroom addict! Although I’m only in class for 6 hours per week, I have been spending several extra hours per week in the school’s photography lab trying to learn printing techniques from other teachers and students with more experience. Help Families in Need by Helping Yourself to a Free Cookbook

Thanks to the lovely Leah at Spicy Salty Sweet, I just downloaded a free Italian cookbook! The cookbook, brought to us by Barilla, is called The Celebrity Italian Table and features celebrity recipe favorites that have been recreated by Mario Batali. From what I’ve read so far, many of the recipes look really good. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised since it comes from Barilla, makers of my absolute favorite dried pastas! Continue reading →

Ten Things You Might Not Want to Know about Me and Food

I don’t usually participate in any of those ‘blog tag’ games that circle around the internets. It’s not that I don’t want to do it. In fact, I usually have good intentions when I get tagged. It’s just that I have this little problem called procrastination that seems to interfere with just about every blog post I plan on writing. So this is a formal apology to every blogger who has ever tagged me for one of those internet memes in the past. I meant to follow through, it just didn’t happen. Continue reading →

A Valentine’s Gift from Oprah

Sorry guys, the book giveaway is already over.

This is rather random, but it’s too good not to share!

I had actually been meaning to pick up Suze Orman’s new book, Women and Money. But thanks to Oprah, I now have a free copy of it downloaded on my desktop! That’s right, Oprah is giving away free pdf copies of Orman’s book. The catch is that it’s only available today. So get on it!

Update: Sorry guys, the book giveaway is already over.

Thanks go out to Emon who let us know via Twitter.

Happy Valentine’s Day. I really mean it this time!

Heart Shaped Cappuccino

Some of you might remember that I was somewhat bitter on Valentine’s Day last year. And it was with very good reason. But I made the best of it with that yummy Carrot Ginger Soup and I got on with my life. Well, it turns out that I am alone once again this Valentine’s Day. *Sigh*

All of you military wives are nodding and thinking, “yep, been there, done that.” It’s just part of military life. But I really don’t care much about spending Valentine’s Day together. And no, I’m not just saying that because I’m sitting here alone at Starbucks. It’s enough for me to know that, even though he’s not in the same city as me right now, he’s not in Iraq.
