Food Blog Friday: Caramel Apple Pear Cake from Zoë Bakes

Caramel Apple and Pear Cake from Zoe Bakes

It’s definitely time for another installation of Food Blog Friday and this week I’m featuring a gorgeous Caramel Apple and Pear Cake recipe from the wonderful baking blog Zoë Bakes, written by pastry chef and cookbook author Zoë François.

Even if you aren’t familiar with her blog, you might recognize Zoë as co-author of the popular bread baking books Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day and Healthy Bread in Five Minutes a Day.  The books are great and so is the Artisan Bread in Five blog, but it’s really been a pleasure getting to know Zoë through her personal baking blog over the past few years. Food Blog Friday: Spicy Tomato Jam from Divina Cucina

Spicy Tomato Jam with Goat Cheese

There are tons of tomato jam recipes floating around right now, but the first time I remember reading about it was last summer at Over a Tuscan Stove.  Although Judy cooks, teaches, and blogs from Tuscany, the recipe for tomato jam came from a brochure that a friend mailed her from Sicily.  Like all of my favorite Sicilian recipes, the jam recipe is very simple – just tomatoes, sugar, lemon juice, and a bit of fresh basil.  I bookmarked it back then, but didn’t get around to trying it until recently. Food Blog Friday: Lemon Buttermilk Pound Cake

Lemon Buttermilk Pound Cake with Fresh Raspberries

It’s Food Blog Friday and here I am writing about yet another lemon-infused recipe.  I can’t help it.  I love lemon.  I love this Lemon Buttermilk Pound Cake.  And I love Baking Bites, today’s featured food blog.

Nicole Weston has been writing Baking Bites since 2004 – way before I knew anything about food or baking blogs.  She updates the blog almost daily with recipes, baking tips, product reviews, recommendations, and what she calls “bites from other blogs” – links to interesting recipes and ideas from other blogs.  I just ordered a new ice cream scoop based on Nicole’s recent review of her Zyliss scoop. I love learning about great products from other bloggers!

I’ve been reading Baking Bites since I first discovered food blogs and I’ve tried several recipes over the years.  They’ve all been great!  When I was craving lemon cake this week, I knew I could trust Nicole’s Lemon Buttermilk Pound Cake even though I had never made it before.  I was right to trust the recipe.  This cake was perfect. Food Blog Friday: Fattoush from Kalyn’s Kitchen

Fattoush - a Lebanese salad recipe

This Lebanese salad is a perfect way to use up stale pita bread, but it’s so good that you’ll want to buy (or make) extra pita to ensure you’ll always have some left over for Fattoush.  The lemony garlic dressing spiked with sumac is what really makes this salad shine – I think I would eat just about anything as long as it was drenched in that concoction! The crisp pita soaks up and helps balance the tart dressing while the garden fresh vegetables and herbs make this a summer classic.  You really need to try it. Continue reading →

Food Blog Friday: Spice-Rubbed Flank Steak from Blue Kitchen

Spice-Rubbed Flank Steak from Blue Kitchen

I love grilled beef.  I especially love grilled flank steak.  Today I’m introducing you to one of my favorite food bloggers, Terry from Blue Kitchen, and his recipe for Spice-Rubbed Flank Steak.  The meat is slow-marinated in a mixture of coriander, cumin, cinnamon, fresh ginger, and garlic before it meets the grill.  Yes, it smells and tastes just as fantastic as it sounds.
