Help Families in Need by Helping Yourself to a Free Cookbook

February 25, 2008 by Nicole 25 Comments

Thanks to the lovely Leah at Spicy Salty Sweet, I just downloaded a free Italian cookbook! The cookbook, brought to us by Barilla, is called The Celebrity Italian Table and features celebrity recipe favorites that have been recreated by Mario Batali. From what I’ve read so far, many of the recipes look really good. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised since it comes from Barilla, makers of my absolute favorite dried pastas!

So if the word ‘free’ isn’t enough incentive to get you to download the book, here’s another really great reason. For each cookbook downloaded this month, Barilla pledges to donate one dollar to America’s Second Harvest, a great organization that works to provide meals to the 35 million men, women, and children in need in America. Barilla will keep donating through February March 31 or until until 100,000 cookbooks have been downloaded. So, make sure you spread the word so we can get that number up there!

One thing that really excites me about the book is that it actually has a recipe for one of my all-time favorite Sicilian treats — panelle! Panelle is a type of chickpea fritter that is a specialty of the Palermo area. I’ve mainly had it served on bread as a sandwich but I’ve also had it served plain as a restaurant appetizer. I’ve never made it at home but I might give Mario’s recipe a try now that I have it.

Remember, you need to download the book by the end of this month March in order for America’s Second Harvest to get the extra donation. To pass this post on to friends, you can click on the ‘e-mail this’ link down below. If you have a blog, spread the word by writing your own post about it.

Download The Celebrity Italian Table now!

I downloaded it, but it may have to do with my unhealthy obsession with Natalie Portman, either way, we will cook with it for sure, and a $1 is a significant contribution from Barilla. I am impressed.
