Exploring My New Backyard

November 16, 2012 by Nicole 12 Comments

Purple Flower

We had kitchen cabinets installed at the new house today, but there wasn’t much I could do except stand around and get in the way of the installers.  Instead, I grabbed my camera and wandered around the backyard.  It was raining, but just barely.

Roses

This rose is attached to a bush that is the size of an elephant.  I’m really not exaggerating.

Pink Camellia

The Camellia in the courtyard is completely covered in buds and I’ve been patiently waiting for it to bloom for weeks.  This one flower was waiting for me today.

Myrtle Berries

The berries on this Myrtle tree look just like blueberries.  Unfortunately, they don’t taste like blueberries at all and I won’t be eating any more of them.  In the background you can see that the pineapple guavas are still dropping like crazy.

Brick Fence

This brick wall surrounds the entire yard.  I’m not sure how it’s still standing after all these years, but I think it’s absolutely beautiful and I’m thankful for its strength.

New Cat

The new cat has definitely decided to stay.

Congrats on the new house -- and what a lovely garden you have. I'm fairly bursting with jealousy. Will you post more photos of the Camellia when it has more blooms? That's one of my fav flowers. <3

Love all the flowers, also the cat ( I have 3 ) and I made the artichokes with lemon. Just went through a chemo session so the appetite is a little off....as soon as I try the artichokes I will let you know! Lucy

Watch the Morning Glory--terribly invasive, it will take over your whole yard! I love Camellias, but here in the Pacific Northwest they only last a short time--I think it's just a week. We live east of the mountains and don't even get to see them in the spring, but we have Flowering Hawthornes and they are gorgeous.
