Please Accept My Apology

November 18, 2008 by Nicole 22 Comments

Some of you might have noticed that the last eleven days worth of blog posts/recipes have completely disappeared from Pinch My Salt.  Due to human error at my web hosting provider, the last eleven days of my blog have been completely erased.  I will obviously be switching to a new provider soon, please let me know if you have any recommendations.

My apologies to those of you who entered the knife giveaway contest, I am going to have to start the contest over again because the post and all the comments have disappeared.  So, for the next few hours, I will be working to restore what has been lost.  I have copies of all of the recipes/photos/writing, it’s just a matter of getting them back into the blog.

I’ll keep you posted about the new knife contest deadlines.  Unfortunately, I’m going to have to ask you to leave your comments again once I get the post back up!

Wish me luck!

UPDATE: I’ve restored more than half of the posts and I need to take a break!  Still to come: Persimmon Cookies, Buttermilk Cranberry Scones, Tabbouleh with Persimmons and Almonds, and Sourdough Stuffing with Apples and Bacon.  They will be back up by the end of the night.  Thanks for your patience!

UPDATE #2: I think I have everything restored now.  Please check out the post about the Knife Giveaway and leave a new comment if you would like to enter!

Kathy: Over 200 people entered the knife contest as of this morning. It was human error. Someone is going to be fired.

Check out Google's cache. You might be able to get the entire thing back, including those comments. How on earth did they lost your posts?! Very odd! I've been pretty happy with SiteGround. I have a link on my website that would give me a reference if you choose them ;-)

Wow, that's awful! I can't believe your host didn't have a backup. That's completely unprofessional. I love Surpass Hosting and have had very good luck with them. They have automatic daily, weekly and monthly backups!

That is incredibly terrible! I use GoDaddy for my hosting, have for years, and never had a problem. I can highly recommend them.

Sorry about all of that Nic. Don't cry. Everything will be just fine. Sorry that everything went kaput. Darn those BlueSmurf people...or whatever they're called. I'll make you a drink, OK? How does a margarita sound? Light ice? :)

Wow. Bluehost has a pretty good reputation, too. I can't imagine the feeling, but better do a backup. Ugh. I think I would have ripped my hair out by now over it all. Best wishes to you as you put it all back together...we'll wait patiently because you're worth it.

Have you looked into Wordpress? They have a lot of design options to choose from.

So sorry to here about what happened! I know how frustrating this can get and that is why even if my hosting provides me with backups I always make sure I have my own backups as well, you know just in case. I use WordPress Database Backup plugin to send all my backups in my inbox. As for a hosting company, we've been with Servint for a long while and then switched to LiquidWeb. Never had any problems so I didn't get to use my backups :). We were happy with Servint but we switched to Liquid Web because they had a better offer for a Windows server so it was simply a financial decision. I must tell you we searched long and hard for a good hosting, we read all sorts of reviews before choosing one and I'm glad we did.

That is so horrible! :( We've used LunarPages for about a year and a half now, and have had absolutely no trouble at all with them. I hope you're able to find a host who maybe doesn't have a broken give-a-crap.

Oy! Glad you're backed up and back to normal...hint that the rest of us should climb onboard the backup train....anyway, thanks for restoring so quickly and hope you're not too frazzled! Looking forward to the knife giveaway :)
