    I try to eat very healthy at home, keep no snacks in the house, etc. That way I can have french fries and dessert when I go out!

    If i know I'm going out somewhere with lots of unhealthy snacks, or to a giant turkey dinner, I'll often eat a small healthy snack at home before I leave so I won't be as hungry and temped to eat my way through the entire buffet. I really like having a green smoothie before I leave the house!

    Since we usually eat pretty healthy, I just try to keep the goodies out of the house. But I also up the workouts this time of year. Helps keep me feeling level headed when I'm out shopping or stretch to the limits for time.

    portion control! if you really want something, have a few bites of it. the first 4-5 bites are always the best anyway

    Keep ALOT of fruit and vegetables in the house. I do this and then I make myself feel pressured to use them up before they go bad. Also, I cut out about half of the sugar of almost all of my baked goods, unless there's a really good reason not to. For instance: instead of using 2 cups of sugar in one small cake, I'll cut it down to 1 c and then add a bit of honey to round out the sweetness.

    I try to keep most of my eating healthy and allow for ONE treat at a party or when I go out to eat. So, I might have broiled salmon from the buffet along with salad and vegetables, but allow myself to have one cookie or a small piece of cake. That way I decide which treat is really worth the splurge. After the party, I get right back on track with healthy eating until the next event.

    Love, love, love your blog....live in SW Ga, home of peanuts and pecans. I keep either peanuts, pecans, or almonds in my car at all times. If I get hungry and am tempted by a fast food restaurant, I grab a handfull of any of the above, just enough to stop both the temptation and hunger. In addition I substitute 1/2 the sugar in recipes for an organic sugar substitute. I also use apple butter, apple sauce or mashed banana as a replacement for part of the fat in recipes. It's wonderful and you never can taste the difference. In addition, I save on calories and fat is by substituting Greek yogurt for any and all uses of sour cream. When I eat out I always eat a healthy fish dish as I can never be sure chicken or beef are organic. Have a great holiday and keep the healthy recipes coming! Edie M

    I will try and keep butter down and use small amounts of olive oil to saute those yummy veges. And when I am hungry between meals I snack on fruit!

    We eat salad and a light dressing first at almost all of our dinners so that it will fill us up a little and we will eat less.

    I use FitDay software to track my nutrient and calorie intake and can safely say it has changed my life. No more weight issues, complete knowledge of what goes into my system, how much fat, saturated, poly-unsaturated, mono-unsaturated, how much protein, how much vitamin C, or what have you... Now that I am used to tracking my nutrients, I can't imagine going back to my pre-Fitday nutritional blindness --- the idea feels sort of like going back to the world before the internet information revolution: incredibly primitive. Knowledge is power everywhere in life, and in nutrition too! By the way, for those who don't want to pay for software (FitDay isn't free), there is a similar freeware program, called Cron-o-meter, which is just as good from what I have heard (I haven't used it though).

    Join a CSA! More veggies than you can eat every week, organic, local and from a small farm. You support local farmers as a bonus! Shop at your local farmer's market, make your own hummus and take things like baby carrots and celery sticks with a small container of hummus to work to snack on instead of chocolate bars and chips from the deli. Half the amount of oil in your go-to dinner recipes.

    Love your blog and am a regular visitor, though I have never commented. I try to eat healthy 95% of the time since I have been diagnosed with chronic gastritis. Lots of fruits and vegetables for me and my family follows it too. We do indulge once in a while just to keep ourselves going as an incentive. Merry Xmas to you and your family!

    I love this site. It has been fun to watch it evolve. My heatlhy tip is long but super important. My tip: READ YOUR LABLES -NEVER EVER CONSUME HYDROGINATED OILS, EVER! If the label contains the words hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated, do not let your family eat it. If the label contains the words hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated, do not let your friends eat it. If the label contains the words hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated, get it out of your family's kitchen. Read labels and avoid these substances like they are poisons ... which they are. Why not consume partially hydrogenated fats or oils? Because by the definition of "poison," partially hydrogenated fats and oils are poisons. Dorland's Medical Dictionary defines "poison" as "any substance which, when relatively small amounts are ingested ... has chemical action that may cause damage to structure or disturbance of function, producing symptomatology, illness, or death." (1) Partially hydrogenated oils do not exist in nature.     I follow the rule of three. I'm an appetizer person so I choose three appetizers that look the best and savor each one so I don't feel deprived.

    I double almost any recipe I make. That way I have leftovers for lunch so I don't spend all week scarfing down greasy foods like pizza and fries (powerless to resist) - healthy AND thrifty!

    If I don't buy it, I don't eat it. If I had snacks in the house all the time, I'd weigh a million pounds. Bring your own lunch...or go to subway. Don't eat after 7-8pm-ish. I lost 15lbs recently, and I swear this is a large reason why!

    DONT eat anything that is packaged Eat small portions frequently (1 cup size per 2hrs ) Eat slowly with chopsticks (never bring bowl near your face) Drink 2 litres of water EVERYDAY Excersise everyday

    I am a firm believer that we are meant to eat. I love it. My rule is if you want to eat a ton, you need to work out really hard. Freeze Dried Foods Daily Bread Food Storage
