The Last Meal

November 16, 2007 by Nicole 16 Comments

Last Bruschetta

Some simple bruschetta to start.

Pizza Calabrese

Pizza Calabrese with spicy salami, hot peppers and capers.

French Fry Pizza

And Justin’s favorite: pizza with french fries!

We decided to have our last meal at the very first pizzeria we tried four years ago on our first night in Sicily. It’s not the best pizza, but it’s pretty good. And it was fun to relive our first dining experience in Sicily. Afterwards we walked down the street to get some pastries for dessert.

Little Pastries

Little Pastries 3

As you can imagine, it took a while to choose one 🙂

Well, we are now officially back in the United States.

Although we won’t make it to San Diego until tomorrow morning, we arrived in Virginia this afternoon and have checked into our hotel. The animals survived the trip with absolutely no problems and we humans are doing fine despite the fact that we haven’t really slept in about 42 hours. Now as long as we can make it to the airport by 4 am tomorrow, everything should work out fine!

Off to sleep…more tomorrow!

Yeah, nothing like NOT sleeping as you travel from Europe to the US. it's the best part of the experience as far as I'm concerned.

I live in Mineo! Wow, what a small internet-world we live in. I came across your blue cheese burger post via the stumble-upon plugin for Mozilla. I just got back from the commissiray gathering the ingredients for it. Sadly they didn't have any blue cheese. : ( I'm definitely going to check out all your postings for good tips on the local cuisine. Excellent site! Mmmmmmmm.......cornetti...

We're in the Tidewater area, too, although my husband spends a fair amount of time in San Diego, we're headed out there for Thanksgiving! Hope you had a safe trip! The husband wants to take our boys to see Coronado.

French fry pizza? What's the tableware etiquette for that?

Just wanted to send good thoughts your way -- I know leaving Sicily has to be just a bit bittersweet, and not just because of the food. Thanks for sharing so many wonderful photos from your last-minute travels and eating adventures, and I can't wait to keep reading what you get cooking stateside!

Thanks, Genie! I have quite a few Sicily photos and even some recipes saved up so even though my time there has come to an end, I'll still be sharing stories and photos of my adventures for quite a while!

Sorry I had dropped off the face of the earth the last few months...anyways, all these pictures and stories of leaving sicily are making me really miss it there. I am back after over a month on the ship. I was just in San Diego friday, had I known you two were there, I could have given you all a call...hmmm...well, I will let you know the next time I am there...it should be twice, no three times next year...welcome back to the states!

Ahhh... I recognize the Valentino's tablecloth, Pizza Calabrese and the Puleo Andrea Pastries! We just returned from Sicily- spent the last 8 years there, off and on. I don't suppose you have a recipe for the filling for the Cafe Beignets they have at Puleo Andrea??
