Attention New York Food Bloggers!

June 24, 2007 by Nicole 18 Comments

I was just catching up on my food blog reading and I found some exciting news! Matt Armendariz, food photographer extraordinaire, will be teaching a class called ‘The Ins and Outs of foodblogging’ at Whole Foods Market Bowery on July 15th. I really really really want to attend that class! I was planning on visiting New York City (for the first time EVER) at the end of July but now I’m thinking about changing up my travel plans a little so that I’m there for the class!

Although I probably don’t have to tell you guys this, Matt is an amazingly talented photographer and writer. His blog is one of my favorite reads and I’ve been following his photography on Flickr for quite some time. If you are a food blogger in New York, you should definitely try to attend this class! I just checked and registration is only $25 for a 2 hour class.

Visit Matt Bites for information on how to register for the class.

UPDATE:  I just registered for the class!  I’m not quite sure how I’m going to rearrange my travel plans, but I’ll figure out something.  Now I just need suggestions on where to stay in New York 🙂

Sounds like a fantastic opportunity!! I loved New York City...or Manhatten, lots of smells, people and fun! In the summer some of the smells are not so great, but still fun!

I'll be there, and I'm trying to get a few people together to go out for dim sum together first. Interested in joining us?

Never been in New York, huh. I agree with Ruby Berry about the smells. Although I'm quite used to it. My friend is visiting and she says it smells like a dead 'something' in the subway (since this is a food blog, I'm restraining from mentioning the 'something's' name). I kid, subways smell like Spring. Irish...Spring. Couple of tips: Bring really comfy shoes (the best way to see this city is by walking). But that's my opinion, of course. Bring a light jacket. I know it's summer but these past couple of days have been a bit on the chilly side. Nuts! How long are you staying? Will it be your husband's first time as well?

SCB: That sucks! I thought for sure you'd go! Oh well, we can still get together for drinks sometime while I'm there. The TriniGourmet: I'll definitely be writing about the experience! Matt: Thanks for stopping by! I'm really looking forward to the class! Amy: I was originally gonna be in NYC then but just changed my plans! I'll just have to catch up with you in Madera :-) Ruby: After being in Europe for a few years, I can definitely deal with summer smells ;-) Fig Olives Wine: Hope to see you there! Danielle: That sounds great! You know, I've never been out for dim sum before? After almost four years in Sicily, I'm ready for some new culinary experiences :-) Emon: Thanks for the tips! Not sure yet how long I'm staying. My husband hasn't been to New York either but he unfortunately will be staying home with the dog and cat this time around! It's hard to imagine it being chilly anywhere since it was 111 degrees here today. Uhg!

You could stay with my aunt and uncle, they live on Long Island. They were at the wedding (me and Corinne's). Know who I'm talking about?

I really like Matt's work, it's a pity I won't be in NY this summer.

Hi Nicole, I 've been reading pinch my salt for a year now. I have no idea how I first found it. But as a NY transplant who used to travel to the city on business finding hotels to stay in was always fun. I never stayed in the SoHO/ Village area. But if you want to stay in the middle of things ( midtown ) here are some recommendations. The Roger Williams ( great little boutique hotel, good european breakfast). The Sofitel. The Kitano ( japanese hotel w/ all the fun japanese amenities, tea rooms, amazing sushi). The Jolly Hotel Madison Towers ( it's italian based boutique hotel! I got to use my always dwindling italian language skills.) The Hotel Metro ( not as nice...but not as pricey either) And in SoHo - The mercer. Way to pricey for me! But I visited a friend who was staying there and what an experience. Right by the best Dean and Deluca in the whole entire city. Have a great trip! Erica

Jason: I know I've met your aunt and uncle but, um, the wedding was quite a while ago so I don't remember :-) I'm lucky if I can remember people I met last week! But I have found that imposing on your family can be fun! Cynthia: Yes, his work is great! Too bad you can't make it! Erica: Thanks so much for taking the time to give me all those recommendations!!

Oooohhh JEALOUS!! Alas, not enough air miles to make the trip across the oceans! I hope someone will pass notes around :) In the meantime for long-distance fans like me, Delicicious Days wrote a great post on food blogging here!

Padmaja: I found a hotel that seems to be nice and in the middle of things! Dave: I still haven't seen the actual paper, just the thing online. Jonathan: Thanks, but I booked a hotel already! Christine: Thanks for the Delicious Days link! It looks like a great resource :-)
