I just picked up our T&D Willey Farms CSA box and thought I’d let you peek inside again. It’s a good one! We have carrots, celery, yellow onions, russet potatoes, garnet sweet potatoes, winter squash, winter savoy spinach, satsuma mandarins, cranberries, red bell pepper, rosemary, and Italian parsley. I think my favorite thing about this week’s box is the complete lack of lettuce. We haven’t been eating many lettuce salads lately so I still have an entire head of lettuce from last week. Since we moved to Madera and signed up for our weekly CSA box, I don’t make it to Fresno farmer’s markets nearly as much as I used to. But this morning I got up early and headed down to The Vineyard Farmer’s Market with my aunt and cousin to do some shopping and visiting. It turned out to be an absolutely beautiful Fall morning and my favorite outdoor market under the arbor was filled with vibrant produce and people, just as I remembered it. Continue reading →
We joined our local CSA last Spring and although I don’t always make it through all of the lettuce and I occasionally lose some vegetables in the back of the fridge when it gets full and we’re busy and I’m not cooking as much I’d like, we’ve really enjoyed picking up our weekly box of goodies and I’m happy to support our local organic farm, T&D Willey Farms, here in Madera, California. Just got home from The Vineyard Farmer’s Market and thought I’d show you what I picked up today. I came home with broccoli, carrots, asparagus, alfalfa sprouts, sorrel, tomatoes, kale, and some baby squash. Last night I stopped by the Clovis Farmer’s Market and bought eggs, cheese, lettuce, and blueberries. I have fresh herbs in the fridge and the freezer is stocked with some chicken, fish, and beef. I plan on hitting up a local stand for strawberries later today. I think I’m set! What have you been buying in your local markets lately?
I’m on the west coast now and I thought I would tempt you with some new farmer’s market photos! The Vineyard Farmer’s Market in Fresno, CA, gathers each Wednesday and Saturday under the cover of this beautiful greenery-draped arbor. My aunt and I woke up early and made it down to the market by around 8:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Although I have yet to cook with them myself, I’m always drawn to these bunches of colorful carrots.
Lots of beautiful grapes, peaches, and nectarines to be found here! Continue reading →
